Par 70, 18 Hole Golf Course

Negros Occidental Golf & Country Club, formerly known as Marapara Golf & Country Club, is the championship golf course right in the heart of Bacolod city. This par 70 course which plays 6,197 yards is the top golfing attraction in the Negros Island. A very friendly and accommodating club owing to the “Negrense hospitality” the province is known for, Negros Golf presents a challenge even to the most skillful of golfers. The golf course poses an interesting round, fairly flat with narrow and winding fairways, a number of water and bunker hazards strategically scattered through the course and around the greens, mature trees and out of bounds in perimeter holes. These features, however pale in comparison when often nature joins the picture, as one notable aspect of the course that one cannot dismiss would be the ever blowing wind. At certain seasons Marapara’s gusting winds make a short par 3 seem unreachable with irons. Fairways are lined with mature pine, eucalyptus and mahogany trees that keeping your tee shots in the fairway seems mandatory unless one is willing to throw a few strokes. The greens are fairly even yet very tricky, reading the grains speed and breaks can be a test to one’s patience. The difficulty of the course surpasses its length. It is not one to be taken lightly and yet provides a most pleasurable round for the recreational golfer.
