Bernice Olivarez-Ilas hopes to dish out top form as she joins the title chase in the NGAP Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championship, which reels off today (Friday, Oct. 12) at Beverly Place Golf Club in Pampanga.
Ilas, a veteran internationalist who has racked up a number of victories abroad, slugs it out with Sunshine Zhang and Weifang Gao in one of the flights in women’s Elite amateur division of the 54-hole championship serving as part of the PLDT Group’s National Amateur Golf Tour organized and conducted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines.
Focus will also be on Laurea Duque, Rianne Malixi, Kristine Fleetwood and Korean Kim Seo Yun with Duque raring to score a victory after finishing third in last week’s Cangolf Amateur Open.
Sean Ramos, on the other hand, seeks back-to-back romp this weekend as the newly crowned Cangolf Am winner heads the field in the men’s side of the centerpiece event backed by the MVP Sports Foundation, Cignal, Metro Pacific and hosted by Beverly Place Golf Club.
But Ramos is expected to have his hands full in the next three days with a slew of top players out to foil his bid at the flat, bunker-laden layout. They include Joaquin Gomez, Josh Jorge, Jet Hernandez, Carlo Villaroman, Masaichi Otake, Weiyu Gao, Rald Sarmiento and Miguel Olivarez-Ilas.
Other titles to be disputed over 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday are Group I (5-12 handicap) and Group II (13 and above) in men’s division, both gross stroke and net competitions.
